Ponmudi hill station is as high as 1000m above sea level and is about 61km away from Thiruvananthapuram. It is fast becoming a tourist attraction among the tourists. One can travel to Ponmudi to find natural gifts, beautiful sceneries, pleasant climate and several tourist places. Owing to the small crowds and modern constructions, this hill station is unlike the other hill resorts because of its compactness in area.

Throughout the year, the climate in Ponmudi is very pleasant. The most frequent visits by the tourists are in the Deer Park which is 3 kms from the resort.

Sightseeing in Ponmudi

For trekking and a long relaxing walk across the town, one should travel to Ponmudi. The hills, valleys, the vegetation, tea-estates, spice plantations and cottages give us an experience to cherish for an entire lifetime. If we travel to Ponmudi, we get away from the hot summer and the pollution in cities and can enjoy picnic lunches and natural streams and valleys. The hill station, which has also has natural springs, is just at a considerate distance from Thiruvananthapuram.

A small yet well known scenic spot in Ponmudi is the Golden Valley. We can also enjoy the Aaranmula Boat Race while we pay a visit. The boat race is an annual event in the village of Aaranmula during August and September. It is a part of the Aaranmula Temple festival.

The Varkala is certainly not to be missed on our visit to the hill station. It is a pilgrimage centre fro the Hindus and also has a famous beach. Lofty cliffs and mineral water springs adorn the beach. The Nature Center and the 2000 year old Janardanaswamy Temple are the top attractions of this place.


Prime Attractions : Aranmula Boat Race In the beautiful village of Aaranmula, during the months of August and September is the Aaranmula Temple Festival and the exciting boat race forms a part of it.

Varkala Beach An important pilgrimage center for Hindus with a sea side resort. There are high cliffs with mineral springs along the coastline. The two main attractions are the Janardana Swamy Temple and the Nature Center.

Shopping On the beach there are many shops. Blankets, goods, jewelry, ornaments from Kashmir, Rajasthan and Nepal are sold there. The special spices of Kerela are also available.
